I was approached by JB Hudson Jewelers initially to give their site a face lift, but after meeting with the owner and the management staff, it became clear to me that in order for them to accomplish the ambitious goals they had for the site, more had to be done.

The first step was to give them the ability to make content changes and updates in house.  At the time, they were using a third party, and requested content changes could take anywhere from 3-5 days. Using WordPress, I was able to not only give them a new design that was flexible and visually appealing, but they now had the ability to make content changes immediately.

The next step was to give them an ecommerce solution that would generate sales and allow them to display there inventory online.  That solution needed to interface with a third party point of sale inventory system.  Because of Magento’s robust product importing capabilities, the platform was chosen and integrated into the design.

The last challenge was the Target Field Kiss Cam promotion.  JB Hudson sponsors the Kiss Cam every season, and runs a contest based on the number of votes each couple receives.  Since this generated a ton of traffic for the site, a solution had to be created that would not tax bandwidth, but would still advertise the store.  Using Vimeo, clips were uploaded and embedded dynamically in a WordPress custom post type.  Then, the Facebook “Like” feature was used to both tally votes, and generate more hits to the site by putting links on users’ Walls.  At the end of each series, the winners were given a gift card to JB Hudson, and invited back for a “kiss off” at the end of the season.

The site continues to grow and evolve as the team at JB Hudson gets more familiar with social media and internet marketing.  Thanks to the modular nature of both WordPress and Magento, they have a site that can grow with them.
